A background in human resources and an advanced degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology have served as powerful assets in shaping the course of my legal career. As a certified human resources manager for several large national companies, I saw first-hand a wide variety of employment law issues facing both individuals and businesses in today’s professional market. Inspired by my experiences, I embarked on an academic and professional journey to represent those in need of employment law counsel and effect change in the workplace.
Upon completion of my law degree at Mercer University, I became a passionate advocate of employees and businesses striving to manage today’s complex workplace dynamics. The combination of my academic background and human resources experience focused on compliance, wage and hour claims, unemployment benefits, recruiting and affirmative action planning enabled me to put my skillset to work for our clients.
Today, as an advocate for employees, I investigate, litigate and resolve a diverse range of employment issues. My expertise includes discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims under Title VII, Section 1981, ADAAA, ADEA, FMLA, ERISA, EPA and state laws in both the public and private sectors. I also work closely with corporate clients to develop and revise employment contracts, policies, handbooks, and separation agreements. My collaboration with businesses includes defending claims made by employees with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP).
In the spirit of giving back to the legal profession and the Atlanta community, I play an active role in several local bar associations. I currently serve on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Employment Law Section of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA). For two years, I served as Co-Chair of GABWA’s Community Service Committee, where I engaged with various non-profit organizations, including youthSpark, Carrie Steele-Pitts Home and Families First and served as a passionate advocate for resolving issues impacting women and children. Based on my legal and community service activities, I was honored with GABWA’s 3500 Community Service Award in 2016, the 2015 Martindale-Hubbell Client Distinction Award and membership in the National Black Lawyers Association’sTop 100.
I am a member of the Evansdale Education Foundation and on the EEOC Liaison Committee for the Georgia Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA). My experience is often called upon for radio appearances via various media outlets, including WAOK 1380 and the Atlanta Legal Experts Radio Show. I also enjoy conducting radio blogs on employment related topics, and participating in speaking engagements with schools, churches and various civic groups and bar associations.
My personal interests include advocating for workplace fairness, traveling, attending concerts, reading legal thrillers, watching action thrillers, and cheering on the Atlanta Falcons.
